Fantastic Finds: Shakespeare's First Folio

Thursday, March 09, 2017, 01:30pm - 02:30pm

shakespeareJoin Pequot Director Stephanie J. Coakley and Dr. Beth Beaudin, Special Collections Consultant, for this special Fantastic Finds event as she presents the Library’s partial First Folio and complete Second Folio of William Shakespeare. Published in 1623, the First Folio is the first printed collection of Shakespeare’s work. Only 233 copies are known to exist today, with just 40 of those being complete editions. The Second Folio was printed by Thomas Cotes in 1632 in London; it corrects printing errors found in the First Folio. Scholars believe that only 170 full editions of the Second Folio are owned by American institutions, including the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington D.C., Yale University, Trinity College in Hartford, and Pequot Library.
