MONDAY: ART FROM THE INSIDE OUT
Love art? This workshop is for you! Create two collaborative artworks: an abstract drawing and a self-portrait collage. In the first work, interpret words, sounds, and textures into Abstract Gestures. The second project is a Collaborative Self-Portrait created in four phases. Each phase will introduce a different technique, including painting, collage, and drawing.
TUESDAY: STORIES THAT POP
Explore pop-up art through the many unique pop-up books found in Pequot Library’s Children’s Historical Collection, such as The Wizard of Oz, Robin Hood, and Aladdin and the Lamp. Then, find your inner author while creating your own pop-up book all about...YOU! All you need for this workshop is your imagination!
WEDNESDAY: PANDORA’S BOX
Has your curiosity ever gotten the best of you? Come learn about Pandora, a character from Greek mythology whose curiosity brought a whole heap of trouble! Discover the spirits that Pandora let out into the world, including one who brought “hope.” Learn about other characters from Greek mythology like Zeus, Apollo, Aphrodite, and Athena. In this workshop we will read a short one-act script, then we will cast the play, add some costume pieces, and act it out!
THURSDAY: ALL THE WORLD’S A STAGE
Through theater games and improvisation, explore Shakespeare’s world and a scene from the play A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Discover how Snout, Snug, Starveling, Quince, Flute, and Bottom put on a play for Queen Hippolyta and Duke Theseus’ wedding. Then act out one of Shakespeare’s most famous and hilarious scenes.
FRIDAY: COMEDY IMPROV SLAM!
Join us as we create hilarious situations and characters while having tons of fun. Through theater games and improvisation, work cooperatively while acting out comedic sketches. Within minutes, even the most apprehensive participant will be jumping up to try his or her hand at acting! Improvisation strengthens mental agility, concentration, and the ability to take risks. Bring your imagination and your sense of humor!
