“The Tragedie of Macbeth” and the First Folio

Using the First Folio edition of Macbeth, Geoffrey Sheehan, Co-founder and Artistic Associate of Capital Classics Theatre Company and his fellow Shakespeare Performers from Capital Classics Theatre Company, Marie R. Altenor, Sam Lundstorm, and Laura Sheehan, will present a demonstration of the clues found in Shakespeare’s Folio text and how contemporary theater directors and actors (and any reader!) can use them to gain insight into their character’s very human thinking, passions, and actions, and to create dynamic performances of Shakespeare’s works. Understanding the Elizabethan sense of punctuation and how it supports the emotional and structural demands of rhetoric can increase our ability to make Shakespeare’s text accessible.
