# Pequot Library

> Pequot Library is a nonprofit cultural and research library in Southport, Connecticut, bringing literature, music, art, science, and the humanities to the community through programs, exhibitions, collections, and events.

Pequot Library was founded in 1889 and is housed in a historic building set on more than three acres in Southport, CT. The Library serves readers, researchers, students, and families through public programs, exhibitions, lectures, educational initiatives, and access to circulating and rare materials.

The Library maintains extensive Special Collections focused on early Americana, rare books, manuscripts, archives, and historical documents. These collections support scholarly research and are featured regularly in exhibitions and public programming.

Pequot Library operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and relies on community support, donations, memberships, and fundraising events to sustain free and low-cost cultural programming.
