A Benefit Performance Under the Stars

pequot summer stage | A New Tradition Begins
Performance begins at 7:00p.m.
This summer, Pequot Library launches the inaugural Pequot Summer Stage, a new annual outdoor performing arts tradition on the Great Lawn in Southport. For our opening evening, we welcome the internationally acclaimed Paul Taylor Dance Company, one of America’s most celebrated modern dance companies, for an extraordinary performance beneath the open sky. As twilight settles over the lawn and the library’s century-old stone façade glows in the September dusk, this remarkable historic setting becomes an outdoor stage unlike any other in Connecticut, a place where artistic excellence, architectural beauty, and community come together in a way that can only happen at Pequot Library.
Whether you join us from the elevation of the VIP Raised Platform, take your seat in the Champagne Circle close to the stage, or gather with friends on the Community Lawn, every guest becomes part of the first chapter of a tradition that will inspire generations to come. Please note: all seating levels include chairs.

About the Paul Taylor Dance Company
To open the inaugural Pequot Summer Stage, Pequot Library is proud to host the Paul Taylor Dance Company, one of the most celebrated and enduring institutions in American modern dance and a company whose work is at once intellectually serious, emotionally powerful, and utterly accessible to audiences encountering it for the first time.
Founded by the legendary choreographer Paul Taylor in 1954, the company has spent seven decades at the forefront of American dance, creating and performing a body of work that ranges from the lyrical and joyful to the darkly theatrical. Taylor’s choreography is distinguished by its humanity, its humor, its connection to music, and its extraordinary physical intelligence.
The Paul Taylor Dance Company performs a repertoire of more than 140 works and tours internationally to critical and popular acclaim. Their presence on the Great Lawn on September 19 is not simply a performance; it is a statement about the caliber of artistic experience that Pequot Library intends to offer its community.
