Yarn Art at Pequot Library

The tree yarn art project at Pequot Library aims to increase awareness and community action about the proposed permanent tree clearing as part of the current UI railroad transmission line rebuild project, including a majestic oak that may be as old as 100-125 years located at the northwest corner of the library’s rear property, adjacent to the overhead bridge for the railroad line.
Trees
A large Norway spruce, a Chestnut, and a Red Oak on the northwest corner of the library’s rear property, along the train tracks near Westway Road
Timeline
Wrapped trees by Thanksgiving Day 2023 and on view winter 2024 (TBD)
Materials
Acrylic, multi-colored yarn
Community
Open to all community knitters and crochet artists of all ages. Pequot Library is accepting finished squares and circle pieces in a basket in the Library’s vestibule or they can be mailed to the Library at 720 Pequot Avenue in Southport, CT 06890. Attention: Yarn Art Project.
Guidelines
No metal used on trees. At the completion of the project, the pieces will be cleaned and assembled into a blanket to be donated to an organization, yet to be determined.
