About

Serving Our Community

Pequot Library is proud to serve all residents of Fairfield thanks in large part to the Town of Fairfield municipal appropriation in each year’s operating budget helping to support 20% of our annual costs, including buying books for the circulating collection, funding a portion of professional staff costs, financing a portion of maintenance of our facility, and supporting quality education programs, school tours, care of the Special Collections, and other day-to-day operational expenses associated with direct services to visitors of all ages. The rest of our budget comes from grants, corporate sponsorships, fundraisers, book sales, and tax-deductible donations from individuals. Please click here to learn more.

A public association library, we proudly partner with our colleagues at the other two public libraries in the town of Fairfield, Fairfield Main Library and Fairfield Woods Branch, to share and circulate our collection of lending items through a collaborative singular lending service and catalog.

Other ways we participate in the community

  • Our librarians regularly lead book clubs at the Bigelow Senior Center in Fairfield.
  • Our book sales draw thousands of bargain hunters to the area, four times annually, including our legendary five day Summer Book Sale. There’s no admission charge for attending.
  • Thanks to a generous grant from the Renée B. Fisher Foundation, our Books for Teachers program provides teachers in select underserved communities with classroom staples and books for personal and professional development.
  • Pequot Library’s school programs integrate our Special Collections of rare books, manuscripts, and archives into interactive tours and workshops that support teachers by aligning with Connecticut Core Standards. Students tour our exhibitions during our Passport to Pequot program. They examine the primary source materials on display, and participate in hands-on activities that allow them to actively engage with what they’ve learned.
Email Us

We go beyond our four walls to engage, educate, and inspire the community.

Outreach

We take our children’s and adult programs into the surrounding area through storytimes with partnering organizations and lectures and presentations about the history of Southport. We participate with Town of Fairfield Chamber of Commerce events and work with local universities and zoos.
