Join New York Times bestselling author Anna Marie Tendler for an important and timely discussion regarding gender, mental health, and more. Her new memoir, Men Have Called Her Crazy, was recently released to rave reviews from New York Magazine, The New York Times, and The Washington Post

Tendler will be in conversation with Shannon Kelley, who is Director of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Fairfield University.

Anna Marie Tendler is a writer and visual artist. Her artistic journey spans textiles, photography, drawing, painting, and interior design. Her debut photo series “rooms in the first house,” has been exhibited across the country to wide acclaim. This grouping of highly stylized self-portraits, taken against the backdrop of her hauntingly curated home, chronicles the nonlinear experience of loss, anger, powerlessness, and the reclamation of identity that so often characterizes womanhood. She holds an M.A. in fashion and textile history from NYU’s Costume Studies program and lives in the woods with her three cats Chimney, Moon, and Butter.

 

 

Shannon Kelley is Director of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and Associate Professor in the English Department at Fairfield University, where she teaches courses in lyric poetry, Shakespeare, and literary theory. Her work on gender and the poetics of trauma in the poetry of Andrew Marvell won the Monroe Kirk Spears Award from “Studies in English Literature” in 2015. Her current manuscript, “Shakespeare, Race, and the Trees of the Global Renaissance” charts how race, gender, and trauma intersect by following the single metaphor of tree-becoming. Her doctorate is from Duke University .
